31st January, 2021

Good afternoon everyone,

Scottish Woodlands are planning a road closure on the B839 Hell’s Glen Road to fell trees in the Glen which have been infected with Phytophthora Ramorum, a highly infectious tree disease which kills trees. Scottish Woodlands have been issued with a plant health notice which legally obligates them to fell the infected trees.  To comply with Health & Safety the road requires to be shut whilst felling takes place.  Work is planned to commence in March and it is anticipated that the work will taken in the region of three months.  The plan would be for the road to be shut between 0800 and 2000, Monday to Friday throughout this period.

Scottish Woodlands are currently planning the road closure with Argyll & Bute Council and part of this process involves consulting with the local community to enable the essential road users to be identified and a plan put in place to allow them reasonable access.

Lochgoil Community Council have been asked to circulate the plan and relevant information to the community for feedback to allow Scottish Woodlands to make a plan which causes the least amount of disruption possible.

Calum Wilson, Harvesting Manager of Scottish Woodlands will be attending the next Lochgoil Community Council General Meeting on Monday 8th February to answer any questions the community may have.

Kind regards

Dianne Paton

Secretary – Lochgoil Community Council
