After a year of fund raising the Cormonachan Woodlands Association raised a total of £6,254.81 from members and local donations (£1,195) and funding from Friends of Loch Lomond & Trossachs (£500) and from the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund via LandTrust through North Ayrshire Council (£2,192) & EB Scotland through Argyll & Bute Council & Shanks Argyll & Bute (£2,367) to fund the car park construction, lectern & information panel and the gates to the paths.
The original car park was only suitable for 2 cars, now the new car park has space for 7 cars, a disabled bay and a minibus bay for Ardroy.
The construction work was carried out very well by Drimsynie Construction and all the signs, gates and fencing were erected by volunteer members. The entire fund raised was used for the construction, signs, gates, fencing and solicitors fees for the car park lease.
The Cormonachan Woodlands Association is extremely grateful to all those who contributed to this new car park at the community woodlands.
There has been a big increase in local residents and visitors walking in the woodlands since the new car park has been open. Dogs are welcome however look out for the red squirrels. There are benches and picnic tables around the woodlands but strictly no fires are allowed. These wonderful woodlands to walk in are ancient Atlantic oak and hazel woodlands and are shown on Roy’s map of 1747. There will be an official opening of the car park in September at a date to be announced.
