Cormonachan Woodlands Growth

Cormonachan Woodlands Association has just signed a new agreement with Forestry Commission Scotland increasing the area of the community woodlands from 20 ha to 50 ha for it to manage. There are now 57 members in the association, up from 36 in its first year. The Car Park Fund has reached £1,685 in January 2017 towards its target of £4,000 when work can commence on extending the car park from being able to park just two cars to eight.

The association has managed to obtain funding to train many of its volunteer members in emergency first aid, the use of strimmers, chainsaws for felling the under planted Sitka spruce trees and in spraying techniques to eradicate rhododendron and other invasive species. Cormonachan Woodlands relies on its volunteer members to look after and maintain these ancient oak and hazel woodlands and to keep the paths clear for all to enjoyably walk on.

Membership for residents is only £10 pa and non-residents/visitors £5.00 pa.
