I have been coming to Lochgoilhead 3 or 4 times a year for the past 3 years and I absolutely love the place! The beautiful scenery and friendly folk make it so welcoming. I have made many friends here now. There is one thing though, that draws me back time after time and that is the scenery. The inspiration I get to paint the wonderful land, sea and sky overwhelms me at times and although I always feel a bit low when it’s time to go home, I very much look forward to hiding away in my studio and to begin to transfer all those wonderful views onto canvas.

This time last week, I was preparing for my trip here to Lochgoilhead for the summer gala day. Canvases, watercolours and framed paintings frantically being wrapped and packed in readyness for the 320 or so mile journey from my studio in Nottinghamshire. This was to be the first time that I would show my paintings of Lochgoilhead and area to the local people. I found it slightly nerve wracking to say the least! I couldn’t stop wondering what people would think, or if they recognised where the pictures were of.

As the Gala day arrived, I rolled up to the venue with my stock and, on finding my designated table, began to set up with the help of my friend Ruth. As I began to unpack my work and see the little corner of the marquee fill with wonderful views of the area, I started to realise just how great it was to be able to share these paintings with the local folk and visitors to the area alike.

As people started to gather at the gala, the craft marquee was soon filling up with prospective customers to have a look at all the local wares that the crafters had to offer. There were some wonderful things for them to peruse and buy and it was obvious that alot of effort had gone into producing all the lovely crafts. I felt very humble to be a part of it and it wasn’t long before I had people coming and looking at my stall.

My feelings of nervousness were soon brushed aside as people started to show genuine interest in my paintings and to ask questions about them. It was a wonderful feeling to be able to talk about them and to ask if they recognised what part of the area the pictures portrayed. I have to say, I was overwhelmed by the kindness shown by visitors to the gala day, local and holidaymakers alike. Everyone made me feel so welcome and I had so many lovely remarks about my work. All of this gave me so much confidence and I would like to thank everyone who came and browsed my work on the day and also those who purchased a painting, for their appreciation.

And so, the day ended with a very happy, smiley Anne but that isn’t the end of my tale of my weeks activities..

I visited Inverary today, as I usually do, for lorne sausage, haggis, and an ale or two, to take back to Notts for my husband. My paintings were all still safely packed in the back of the truck. I decided to pay a visit to The Stable Gallery and I’m very thrilled to say, that 4 of my paintings have been accepted there to be put on sale! I can’t tell you how pleased I am that they are being shown in this lovely gallery.

The week here has gone so quickly but I have acheived so much. I am so greatful to everyone who I have met this week and also my friends here, for their support. Many thanks again to the people of Lochgoilhead who helped put the gala day together and to everyone who came along to enjoy a super afternoon in the sunshine. I will be back up here again at the end of September but not before I have produced more paintings of this wonderful part of Scotland. Be sure to have a look on my website for new work being added, or if you would like to discuss a commission piece with me at
