History

On Wednesday 6th January 1960 the following persons:- Messrs J Armstrong, J MacNish, J Halliday, D MacLachlan, G Francey, A Brown and I Ross met at 8 pm in the Lochgoilhead Hotel to discuss the subject of forming a Burns Club in Lochgoilhead’ This was the first entry into the minute book of the Club. After deliberation on a committee it was decided that membership would be 5/- and a Supper would be held in the Lochgoilhead hotel on the 27th January tickets priced at 10/-. On the19th March 1960 Lochgoilhead Burns Club was affiliated to The Burns Federation with the associated number of 831. The entrance fee (£1-1- 0p) was donated by Mr George Garside, director, City of Glasgow Parks Dept. and the first subscription donated by W Dalgleish (£2) who was the secretary of the Federation and a regular visitor to Lochgoilhead.

Membership

Membership initially was restricted to 36 people but this was increased to 40, not for reasons of exclusivity but because the Lochgoil Hotel could not cater for any more than 80 persons at the annual supper. Now-a-days the membership is open to all who care to apply to the secretary. Membership is £5 paid annually at the annual supper and is subject to getting support from an existing member and subsequent approval by the committee.
